In December of 2008 Dr. Bennett completed credentialing courses to be able to offer her patients treatment with Vet-Stem Regenerative Cell Therapy.

Regenerative cell therapy is a new modality of treatment for our patients.  Current applications are for degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis), bone fractures and tendon and ligament repair. Other uses for stem cell therapy and in development and will become available in the future.

The process is that fat tissue is collected from the patient and sent to Vet-Stem for processing. Vet-Stem isolates the desired cells and returns them to the hospital to be administered to the patient. The administration may be directly via arthrocentesis (injecting into affected joint or joints) or injected systemically to allow for treatment of multiple joints or tissues.

The administered cells can ultimately help the patient regenerate healthier tissues. The goal is to reduce pain and return the patient to as normal as possible activity and/or performance.
Stem cell therapy is used together with physical therapy and other treatments.

We have not yet applied this technology.  I will post cases as we start to use it, given owner permission.
